Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 28, 2025

Hey there! I’m committed to being as transparent about your privacy as I am about my DIY fumbles. This policy explains what information I collect, how I use it, and what rights you have. I’ve tried to write this in plain English rather than legal jargon—because nobody has time for that and I’m definitely not a lawyer.

The Short Version

I collect minimal information to make this site work well and to improve the content I share. I don’t sell your personal information, I don’t spam you, and I take reasonable steps to protect your data. If you have questions, just contact me.

What Information I Collect and Why

When You Contact Me

What I collect: Your name, email address, and whatever you share in your message through my contact form.

Why I collect it: So I can respond to your questions, project ideas, or feedback. Pretty straightforward.

How long I keep it: I keep contact form submissions for 3 years, then delete them. This gives me time to follow up on conversations and maintain business records.

When You Comment on Posts

What I collect: Your name, email address, website (if you provide one), and your comment content.

Why I collect it: To display your comment and prevent spam. Your email address isn’t shown publicly, but I can see it.

How long I keep it: Comments stay as part of the blog content unless you ask me to remove them or they violate my comment policy.

Website Analytics and Performance

I use several tools to understand how the site performs and what content is most helpful:

Google Analytics (through Site Kit): Tracks things like how many people visit, which posts are popular, and where visitors come from. This data is anonymized and helps me create better content.

Site Kit by Google: Connects various Google services (Analytics, Search Console) to help me understand site performance and search visibility.

Yoast SEO: Helps optimize content for search engines. It may connect to services like Semrush and Wincher for SEO insights.

TrustedSite: Provides security scanning and trust badges for the website.

Akismet: Checks comments for spam to keep discussions productive and relevant.

Cookies and Tracking

Like most websites, this site uses cookies—small files stored on your device that help the site function and remember preferences.

Essential cookies: Keep the site working (security, basic functionality)
Analytics cookies: Help me understand which content is useful
Affiliate cookies: Track when you click affiliate links (more on this below)

You can disable cookies in your browser, but some site features might not work as well.

Email Newsletter (Future)

I plan to start an email newsletter to share DIY tips, project updates, and helpful content. When that launches:

What I’ll collect: Your email address and name (if you provide it)
Why: To send you the content you signed up for
How often: Weekly or bi-weekly, not daily spam
Your control: Easy unsubscribe anytime, and I’ll delete your info within 30 days of unsubscribing

Affiliate Links and Advertising

Affiliate Marketing

I participate in affiliate programs with Amazon and other retailers. This means I earn a small commission when you buy something through my links, at no extra cost to you.

What this means for your privacy: When you click an affiliate link, that company may track your visit using cookies. I don’t control their privacy practices, so check their policies if you’re concerned.

My promise: I only recommend products I actually use and believe in. All affiliate links are clearly disclosed.

Future Advertising

I may use Google AdSense or other ad networks to display relevant advertisements. When that happens:

  • Ad networks may use cookies to show you relevant ads
  • They may track your visits across websites (not your personal identity)
  • You can opt out of personalized ads through Google’s Ad Settings

I’ll update this policy when I add advertising and let readers know about the change.

How I Protect Your Information

I take reasonable steps to protect your data:

  • Secure hosting: The website uses standard security measures
  • Limited access: Only I have access to contact form submissions and comments
  • Regular updates: I keep WordPress and plugins updated for security
  • No selling: I never sell or rent your personal information to third parties

However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. I do my best, but I can’t guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights and Choices

For All Visitors

  • Access: You can ask what information I have about you
  • Correction: You can ask me to correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion: You can ask me to delete your information (with some exceptions)
  • Opt-out: You can unsubscribe from communications anytime

For EU Visitors (GDPR Rights)

If you’re in the European Union, you have additional rights:

  • Right to portability: Get your data in a standard format
  • Right to restrict processing: Limit how I use your data
  • Right to object: Object to certain types of data processing
  • Right to complain: Contact your local data protection authority

For California Visitors (CCPA Rights)

If you’re in California, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information I collect and how I use it
  • Delete your personal information (with some exceptions)
  • Opt out of the “sale” of personal information (I don’t sell data anyway)

Third-Party Services

This website uses several third-party services that have their own privacy policies:

I choose reputable partners, but I can’t control their practices. When you interact with their services, their policies apply.

Children’s Privacy

This site isn’t intended for children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from kids. If you’re a parent and think your child has provided information to me, please contact me and I’ll delete it.

Changes to This Policy

I’ll update this policy when I add new features or services. When I make significant changes, I’ll post a notice on the website and update the “Last Updated” date at the top.

For minor changes (like fixing typos or updating links), I’ll just update the date.

Questions or Concerns

If you have questions about this privacy policy, want to exercise your rights, or just want to chat about privacy practices, contact me through the contact form on this site. I’ll respond as quickly as I can.

A Final Note: I’m just a regular homeowner sharing DIY experiences, not a privacy lawyer. I’ve done my best to create a policy that’s both comprehensive and honest. If you spot something that needs improvement, let me know!

This privacy policy is designed to comply with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws as of the last updated date. Privacy laws continue to evolve, and I’ll update this policy as needed to maintain compliance.
