Three houses. Thirty years of fixes and fumbles.
I’m Peter. I’ve owned three houses — a 1950s ranch that needed everything, an 1980s two-story built with the cheapest materials a builder could find, and a 2000s house that was perfectly fine and drove me absolutely crazy.
Turns out I need a home I can make my own. A little sweat, a little blood, a project around every corner. The newer house taught me that about myself.
The older ones taught me everything else.
My DIY education actually started before any of them — watching my dad tinker and fix things growing up. He taught me that mistakes are just part of the learning process (and a few well-placed four-letter words). When I accidentally yanked a bedroom light fixture from the ceiling as a kid, he didn’t panic. He handed me a screwdriver.
I’m not a contractor. I can’t always afford a professional. Plumbing still terrifies me. But when something breaks, I roll up my sleeves and figure it out. Sometimes I get it right the first time. Usually I don’t.
This isn’t about creating the perfect Pinterest house. It’s about making a home work for your family without breaking the bank — with honest how-to guides, real budget breakdowns, and all the fumbles along the way.
If you’re a first-time homeowner, living in an older house, or just trying to figure it out without calling someone every time, you’re in the right place.
Let’s tackle these projects together — one fix and several fumbles at a time.
— Peter
